Gerald Ford (1913-2006) was the 38th President of the United States and the only one not to be elected President or Vice-President. Born Leslie Lynch King, Jr., his mother remarried after a divorce and he took his stepfather's name at age three. He played football at the University of Michigan. He was the only US President to serve on the Warren Commission. He took the office of President after Richard Milhous Nixon's resignation. Future Vice-President Dick Cheney was his Chief of Staff and future President George Herbert Walker Bush was the head of the CIA during Ford's term, which the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence was signed.
