James Monroe (1758-1831) was the 5th President of the United States. He was unopposed in his second election for President. His Presidency was the "Era of Good Feelings". He helped slaves get their freedom in what is now Liberia in which its capital, Monrovia, is the only foreign capital to be named for a U. S. President.
