Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was the 3rd President of the United States. He wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776. He served as Secretary of State under George Washington and Vice-President under John Adams. He was President during the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He died on the same day as John Adams on July 4, 1826.
