Zachary Taylor (1784-1850) was the 12th President of the United States. He never served in any other political base because he mostly served in the military and he led U. S. troops in the Mexican War. In 1850, after watching a groundbreaking ceremony for the Washington Monument, Taylor sought refuge from the scorching summer heat by consuming a pitcher of milk and a bowl of cherries. Five days later, he died while in office.
